$33. MANAGING TIME EFFECTIVELY

SKILL2- UNIT 6:    MANAGING TIME EFFECTIVELY

1.      Are you a good time manager?

è I think, I used to. However, when I study in the university, there are a lot of assignments and new knowledge, I feel like I’m overloaded and I still try to manage it.

One of the most important skills that you should have is time-management.

You have to manage your time efficiently when you have something to do such as homework, housework, projects and other tasks, or cope with competing deadlines.

Sometimes, I have to cope with different tasks with different deadlines. I usually jot them down in a notebook.

To be effective, I list the tasks I have and sort these in order of priority, and then to devote most time to the most important tasks. Therefore, I always complete my assignment on time.

First, I often set goals, and make plans for the things I need to do on a desk diary or an app on my mobile. After that, I organize them on a schedule so that I can check later.

In another way, I prioritize my activities, decide what is more important and give it the most of my time and add it to the top of my list.

I also break down bigger projects into small, manageable steps so that I can accomplish them one step at a time.

Besides, I always minimize distractions as much as possible, don’t use the phone, close unnecessary browsers, and block social media such as Facebook, Twitter... to concentrate on main tasks.

When you have good time-management skills, it helps you to become more independent and confident.

There are three time-management skills: making plans, prioritising activities and developing routines.

$32. TEST

SKILLS 2-UNIT 5: TEST

1.      How many days before a test do you usually begin to study?

è  In my opinion, study is a process. When you study sth new, you need to revise it right after coming home so not to put pressure on your brain. However, sometimes, maybe you are lazy, you are sick, etc. And for me, I think when I have tests, I will study cautiously( carefully) one week before the test. I will notice and practice more than normal.

2.      Do you usually study alone or do you have a study partner?

è To be honest, when I’m disoriented in studying, I often find study youtube channels, It gives me motivation to study. It makes me feel like I have many more companions and I can study more productive.

Disoriented: mất phương hướng

3.      How do you usually use your lecture notes when you are studying for a test? Are you a note useful?

è I think that Taking lecture notes is an important skill. It reduces time to jot down in class and you have more chances to ask the teacher what you don’t know. For me, before having a test, I always summarize knowledge. I’m an avid taking-note person. Using lecture notes helps me not put pressure much on my mind.

·         I think the whole scenario, Kei is doing wrong. He is using short-term memory and he learn parrot-fashion. After the test, he can’t remember the knowledge and maybe that knowledge is very important for his life after. So, he wastes time, money and it may led to cheat in examinations.

$31. TAKING GOOD NOTES

UNIT 2: TAKING GOOD NOTES

GETTING STARTED

1.      Do you often take notes when studying something (during letures, self-study)?

è Yep, I’m a kind of taking-note person. I have a memory like a sieve, sometimes. So, I take notes the main points of the lessons, I take notes whenever I want to remember my internet passwords, or something like that.

2.      Why is it important for students to take notes during lectures?

è Because you just note it one time, and the information will be etched in your memory. Everyday, there are many new things we need to learn, to know, to remember, etc. That the reason why when you have new things to remember, you forget the old’s. So, the way to not put pressure on the brain is just jotting down, the best way.

3.      What form do your notes ussually take? For exxample, do you use symbols or color coding?

è There are many different ways to take notes like: diagrams, tables, stories  etc.  I, myself use Cornell Notes. It’s easy, feasable, and the most important is: It’s suitable for me. According to 6 parts: 6R: Record, Reduce, Retice, Reflect, Review, Recapitulate. You can write it down on the paper

·         The left side: You can make question help, give other ideas, cues, etc.

·         The main side: You jot down the main ideas.

·         The summary side below: You can summarize the notes after the whole lesson.

4.      Is taking notes difficult for you? Why or why not? What do you find easiest about taking notes?

è It takes me many times to understand how to take notes, how to find the best way for me. I think it’s not that much difficult for me to write whatever I want, whatever I think it important, whatever, etc. When you’re familiar with something, you will see that nothing is difficult. And when I find good way to take notes, my memory improve a lot. I think remember is much easier after taking notes.
